Bookkeeper

FCC is seeking a part-time Bookkeeper (8 hours per week). This hybrid role is based in Greensboro, NC, with flexibility to work remotely for some tasks. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, including financial statements, journal entries, and bookkeeping tasks. The role requires managing accounting software, keeping track of income and expenses, and ensuring all financial transactions are correctly recorded. The Bookkeeper will work in close collaboration with staff and leadership to support the financial oversight of the congregation.

Key Responsibilities:

Payments:

  • Ensure proper authorization for all expenditures and adherence to budget line items.

  • Monitor contracts for annual services to ensure invoices align with contracts.

  • Process payments weekly to ensure timely payments.

Deposits:

  • Enter donations weekly from Sunday deposits and online giving records.

Payroll:

  • Process payroll twice monthly.

  • Review and reconcile quarterly and annual payroll returns and W-2s.

  • Manage reimbursement requests for mileage and cafeteria plans for childcare and medical expenses for the minister as required.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate financial records.

  • Prepare Journal Entries and reconcile all accounts monthly.

  • Monitor bank accounts and manage credit cards.

  • Account for designated donations and ensure they are used as intended and prepare donation letters as required.

  • Prepare memorial/honor acknowledgment cards and notification letters.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for the Treasurer.

  • Track pledges, send acknowledgement letters, and prepare a monthly report.

  • Prepare and mail mid-year and year-end Contribution Reports for donors.

  • Prepare sales tax refund requests semi-annually.

  • Prepare and file 1099 forms.

Miscellaneous:

  • Provide reports for the stewardship committee for budget planning.

  • Provide budget/expenditure reports to team members periodically.

  • Manage additional information requests from church members, consulting with the treasurer or minister if necessary.

  • Serve as administrator for the accounting / membership software.

    Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or a related financial role

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

  • Familiarity with non-profit or church financial management is a plus.

    Working Conditions:

  • Part-time (8 hrs./week) position with flexible hours.

  • Some work may be performed remotely, but one day a week-on-site presence is required.

    Compensation:

    Compensation for this position is $25-$28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
